26 March – 5 April 2026 | $5990
Sailing from Grand Turk to Key West is an exhilarating offshore passage, covering approximately 600 to 650 nautical miles across the open Atlantic. As we leave the Turks and Caicos, the open ocean offers both challenges and rewards, with the horizon stretching endlessly in every direction. We’ll either cross the Old Bahama Channel or navigate through the Straits of Florida, depending on prevailing winds and currents. With the easterly trade winds at our back, the journey is often a downwind sail, ensuring steady progress toward the Florida Keys. This passage is expected to take 4 to 6 days, making it an ideal route for sailors with some bluewater experience.
Upon approaching Key West, we’ll be greeted by the vibrant colours of the island’s waters, known for their crystal-clear beauty and abundant marine life. Ernest Hemingway spent much of his time here, drawn by the rich fishing grounds and the lure of adventure on the water, and his presence still lingers in the spirit of the town. The island itself is a lively destination with a rich history, famous for its sunset celebrations, eclectic architecture, and laid-back atmosphere. After the passage, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the local culture, dive in the nearby coral reefs, or simply soak in the tropical beauty, making the journey from Grand Turk to Key West a rewarding and unforgettable sailing adventure.
All meals on board Sea Dragon during this trip are delicious and vegetarian, with the addition of fish if we catch any along the way.
