TRIP IS FINISHED

The first leg of our North Atlantic sailing itinerary! This trip has blue water sailing, as well as coastal navigation. We’ll sail north from Bermuda over the Grand Banks to arrive in St. Pierre, one of two French islands 15NM off the south coast of Newfoundland. Good food, rich history, and Puffins are all a treat here. After more than one delicious pastry and stroll around the island, we’ll hop the short distance to Fortune to clear into Canada and explore the south coast of Newfoundland. This spectacular cruising ground is seldom visited and offers much; gorgeous fjords, hiking, waterfalls, wildlife and remote outports. While here, Sea Dragon will take her time anchorage hopping before making her way up the east coast to St. John’s.

All meals on board Sea Dragon are delicious and vegetarian, in addition, any fish if we catch any along the way.

This is not a trip for the infirm or physically unfit. You MUST be able to go up and down the companionway and move safely about the boat while in rough conditions. It is important to have good balance, and be in reasonably good health. Tentative Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Sea Dragon
Firstly, you will board the boat in St Georges harbor between 1500-1700. After getting settled in your bunk and introductions, we’ll have our first dinner together. Then, our first night will be spent on anchor.

Day 2: Safety Brief/Explore Bermuda
Today will be full of boat briefings, orientation, and getting the boat prepped for passage. Afterwards, you’ll have some time in the afternoon to explore.

Day 3: Set Sail for St Pierre
Today is the day we head to sea! At this time, we’ll haul up anchor and head out of St Georges cut and hoist sails as we start our North Atlantic sailing journey! Summing up our time in Bermuda.

Day 4-8: Underway
Life and rhythm on Sea Dragon will quickly take shape around the watch schedule and life will be wonderfully simple and disconnected from the norm. Soon, you’ll be a natural at the helm.

Day 9: Arrive St Pierre
Welcome to France! Finally, we’ll tie up on the dock in St Pierre, ready to explore a new land after being at sea. Above all, the land adventuring begins!

Day 10-11: Explore St Pierre
Now that we’re here, time to stretch those sea legs and experience this little bit of France on the western side of the Atlantic! Take a tour through the museum, enjoy the local cuisine, or take a trip over to Ile aux Marins to have a look at the former fisherman’s village. Don’t forget to visit the bakery!

Day 12: To Canada
After a few days in port, we’ll untie and head to Canada. Then, it’s only a short hop over to Fortune, where we’ll clear in.

Day 13-19: Southwest and South Coast of Newfoundland
At this time, we’ll spend these days of the trip amongst the birds and marine mammals of the south coast. Then, our nights will be on anchor and our days will be filled with sailing, hiking, relaxing and taking in the spectacular scenery. The fjords are incredible and remote, to take them in is magical. Along the way, specific stops will be largely dictated by the weather. Although North Atlantic sailing is everchanging, it is uniquely beautiful.

Day 20: Arrive St Johns
This lively harbor will be quite the difference from the remoteness of Newfoundland thus far. Now that we’ve arrived in St. Johns, this will be the final port of the trip. Night on the dock.

Day 21: St Johns
While here, we’ll have some time to soak up St. John’s. There are many options depending on what suits your fancy! Afterwards, it’ll be a night on the dock.

Day 22: Depart Sea Dragon
Now that we’ve spent twenty two surreal days together, guests will leave the boat by 0900 in St. John’s.
