We’re going to Tahiti in May! Unfortunately the grant for the proposed research voyage to the Phoenix Islands was not successful, but it does mean we get to go to another hemisphere! Yes, that’s right, from Christmas Island we’ll be continuing our southward voyage, crossing the equator and heading to the South Pacific. We are really excited about this new addition to our schedule! Shanley and I have been to Tahiti once, back in 2012, but it wasn’t a very exciting visit. We had a delivery job to take a Beneteau 393 from Tahiti back to Victoria in late summer. We flew into Tahiti, provisioned, checked out the boat, and then set out to sea – total time in country 3 days, and all of that time spent either in the bilges of the boat or at the supermarket. We wanted to get a move on northbound so we could get to Canada before the season got too late, so there was no time for lollygagging. On this visit, we’re making sure there’s enough time to explore on both ends of our voyages, and we couldn’t be more excited to get a chance to return and experience French Polynesia with our guests. If you’ve been dreaming of crossing the equator under sail, warm tropical seas, or croissants on the beach, get in touch and join us this spring!
