The crew celebrated reaching the geographic center of the North Atlantic Gyre (approximately 29N, 54W) with a “Party of the Centroid.” Everyone enjoyed dinner in full “centroid” costume and shared a Bermuda Rum Cake for dessert. Lead Oceanographer for The Ocean Cleanup Foundation Julia Reisser wears a hat resembling the foil bags that trawl samples are stowed in for safe keeping. Written on her hat? Trawl 33, Net 11!
