Blogger of the Day-Riley Doyle
Riley Doyle joined our Young Adventurer’s Expedition with his brother Jacob in Toronto, but he was a world traveller long before he joined this expedition. Riley was born in the Phillippines, and spent much of his young life living in exotic cities like Dubai, Shanghai, and Vancouver. He now resides in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, and is about to go into Grade 10 at Point Credit Secondary School. Though initially a little more reserved about the expedition than his older brother, Riley excelled at all aspects of life on board (especially keeping Jacob out of trouble!). We really enjoyed having him on board, and can’t wait to see what amazing things he accomplishes in his future!
The Last Day
After sailing all day and all night the Sea Dragon and its crew finally arrived at its destination in Cleveland, Ohio.
Today, we did some data gathering in Lake Erie using the YSI and the manta trawl. When we arrived in Cleveland we swabbed the deck and cleaned the inside of the ship.
Once that was done we all went to an old ore ship that has been turned into a museum about the Great Lakes and the ships in them. It was cool to see how the captain and crewmembers on those ore ships used to live.
Today was a big day for us; before a delicious taco dinner we had to take our International Yacht Training test. After a failed first attempt, Hannah was the only one to pass, leaving Jacob and I to do an oral exam. This time I passed with flying colours.
Overall it has been a great trip and lots of fun. I’d like to thank the crewmembers of the Sea Dragon and Pangaea Exploration for such a fantastic journey through the Great Lakes.
