The ocean plays a monumental part for life on our planet. It covers over 72% of the world’s surface and provides over 70% of the oxygen that we breathe. It is a giant body of water, which is the largest and most diverse ecosystem on the planet. Without the oceans we would not exist.

The oceans are our planets lifeblood, however over the years they have been pumped full of plastics and toxic chemicals which are destroying marine life and their habitats. Did you know that there is approximately 46,000 pieces of plastic floating per square mile of the ocean? It is frightening to think that marine life is drowning in an ocean of plastic.

If we do not make a change now, there will be catastrophic consequences for life on earth. The first step to making a change is to become aware of what is happening to our oceans. If you would like to know more about ocean pollution and how it affects marine life and mankind, take a look at the fascinating infographic, created by the team at divein.com
